Virtual Therapy

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced many classrooms and therapy sessions onto a virtual environment.   At Papillon we have taken this opportunity to pioneer our virtual therapy sessions to continue to support the families that we work with.  We understand the challenges and are implementing methods and practices that are specific to each child and their situation.

Services

We current offer the following services virtually:

  • ABA Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Autism Diagnosis
  • Psychoeducational Assessments

Every Child is Different

Every child is different, and there is a method of care to suit everyone. Since we have been offering virtual sessions, we have found that some children enjoy and embrace this process, and would prefer to continue their therapy virtually beyond the restrictions of the pandemic.

Child Virtual Learning

Meeting the Challenge

Virtual therapy can be a challenge for children of all skill levels with technology, and will require hands on supervision from a parent or caregiver during their sessions to aid participation and communication. We have found that many of the children we work with have been able to learn the process of connecting through technology, especially as schools are adapting to the same methods.

A Process of Learning

Virtual therapy has been a process of learning for both the children and the therapy teams, but we have discovered many benefits. Children have had the chance to develop skills with technology through their interactions with their therapist in this manner. For children that were only seen in the centre before, their therapists have gained an understanding of their home environment to inform care plan decisions and had more opportunity to interact with their parents and family members. As parents participate in these sessions, they have had a chance to learn techniques that can be integrated into home life outside of the sessions.

Family Centred

Since 2009 our centre has been a hub for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families to discover a network of support to empower them with the tools and help they need. We have built a comfortable and positive environment focused on developing and affirming children’s abilities and establishing pride for accomplishments. We believe in offering realistic environments where children can learn the skills they need to prepare for success in the future.
